A data entry job consists of putting information into a program, usually typing something into a computer. The information is entered into a word processing program or a spreadsheet most of the time. While you don't have to be a great typist to do data entry work, it is very helpful to type at least 40 or 50 words per minute. Most legitimate data entry positions pay per word or piece of information entered, so the faster you can type the more you can make. The best thing about these types of jobs is you can do them from anywhere in the world. Most people work at home, so it is the perfect job for stay at home moms or dads.
One thing that you have to look out for is all of the scams in this market. The first red flag is any company that wants you to pay them for the opportunity to work. Traditional jobs just don't work this way. You should never pay anyone to have a chance at a job. Some companies try to get around this by trying to sell you a list of work at home or these types of positions or an instructional course on how to do it. These are almost all scams of one sort or another.
Always do your homework when looking for a data entry job. Ask friends and other people you know if they have ever heard of the company you are looking at. Do a search on the major search engines like Google and Yahoo to see what other people have said about the company. I always search for the company name and then search for the company name followed by the word scam. Bear in mind that finding a single thing or two that is bad about a company does not always mean the company is bad. There are always unhappy people who will trash any company the have worked for. But if you find a lot of complaints then it is a good indication that the company is not a good one to work for.
