Four Popular Types of Online Jobs At Home

If you are interested in starting a home based business, or just earning a little extra money in your spare time, starting an online job at home could be for you.
The huge growth of the internet means that there is a constant demand for people to provide online services. Because of the international nature of the internet these services can be provided from anywhere in the world, including your home. So if you have the time and motivation what sort of services are you able to provide to take advantage of the information age?
In this article I will look at the four most appropriate options for anyone beginning a home based business who has access to the internet and does not require any specialist knowledge or storage space to start off.
1) Filling In Online Surveys
Doing Surveys Online would be the most basic of my 4 options. Basically all you need to do is give your opinion. Many companies survey peoples opinion for a wide variety of different of reasons, everything from looking at business confidence, to what is your favourite bank, to what kind of advertising for chocolate you prefer. For organisations trying to determine who they should be marketing to, to political parties trying to determine policy, people's opinion is important.
Although it is doubtful you will get paid to give your opinion about voting preferences for instance there are many organisations willing to pay for useful information they can gain through the internet. The major problem with filling out surveys as an online job at home is finding enough surveys that you are in the right demographic to fill out.
There are several online directories that will email you surveys to fill in but how many they send you will depend on things like sex, age, geographical location, financial position and so on. If you are looking to earn a little extra cash and are in a demographic that companies may be interested in, then filling out surveys online could be perfectly suitable.
2) Data Entry
In this world of outsourcing there is a big demand for online Data Entry as companies need to put the information they have collected into a more usable form. There is a wide variety of data entry tasks, from basically entering numbers into a database to transcriptions of complicated documents. Of course being an accurate and fast typist is a big advantage if you are looking at data entry as a job.
There are many directories of companies searching for online data entry operators and not all of them are legitimate, however some certainly are and you should use due diligence to try and determine which are and which aren't. As with surveys online you should be realistic about how much you might make doing data entry. Certainly at the beginning your hourly rate may seem very low.
3) Online Writing
With the growth of the internet the demand for written content has increased significantly. As the search engines have got 'smarter' certain methods previously used to get a good rank no longer work as well, now content is king and so the demand for well written articles for websites and blogs has increased. As well as proofreading or writing posts for blogs you could be involved in writing manuals, press releases, abstracts, sales pages and so on.
Like Data Entry there are several directories online, some being more reputable than others. If you are good at it you can make quite a reasonable income writing online however there is no ongoing income, you stop writing and your source of income stops.
4) Marketing Online
Basically Internet Marketing covers any online activity involved in the marketing of goods and services. It includes things like network marketing, affiliate marketing, and many more. I am not going to mention online jobs that may require specialist skills to get started.
Internet marketing is more of a business than a job and it should be considered one. There are two basic types of marketing, free and paid methods. Paid methods include marketing like the pay-per-click advertising you see down the side of Google, banner advertising, ads in paid directories, and many more. Free methods include using things like forums, social networking, article marketing and many more. They all have the general aim of directing potential customers to a website where you market the goods or services you are selling.
To begin a business like this requires very little money and no specialist skills. Some people have become quite wealthy doing internet marketing but they are a very small minority. If you do not want to invest a large amount of money how well you do in this business is very closely related to the amount of work you put in. If you can commit the time to it you can achieve considerable success in internet marketing but if you only have a couple of hours a week to devote to it I would not recommend internet marketing as one of the best online jobs at home for you.
