Online Jobs For Writers - How To Get Them

When I first started out as a writer I didn't have anyone to tell me where to look for offline and online jobs and it was very much a hit and miss time period. I was terrified that I was now responsible for finding all my work and really felt it was a wonder that more freelance writers did not breakdown.
One of the other fear factors when you first become a full-time writer is the realisation that you do not have a set salary coming in each month anymore. With these things in mind, I decided to write the following article to give a few tips to others who might be struggling to find and secure writing projects and who are worrying about their income.
1. Google: This will always be the first point of call for me. You can perform so many searches, using all kinds of related phrases and Google will turn out all kinds of freelance opportunities for you to apply to.
2. Recruitment agencies: Sign up to these sites for free and create a freelance writer profile not forgetting to set up job alerts and you'll be surprised not only at how many hits your profile receives but how many jobs get sent through to you.
3. Freelancer sites: These are obviously the main place to look for jobs. On these you can build your profile, provide examples of previous work and find jobs that you are well suited to. You can also see the competition and often even see what they are quoting for jobs, which means you can undercut them on price and win jobs that way.
4. Social networks: The power of networking cannot be underestimated. Use your networks to not only promote the work you've done but to advertise your services as a writer and you'll soon see that a friend of a friend or an ex-colleague is after a writer they can trust.
With all the above, I'd be shocked if you find it hard to get a writing job. One important piece of advice that I beg you to take on board though, is that before applying to any of the jobs you like, do your research, not only to make sure you have the best chance of getting the job but so that when you do, you know exactly what will be expected of you.
Do not expect to win every one of the online jobs that you apply for, as it takes time to build up a profile clients will trust and often they prefer to go for those who have more experience. Keep at it though and you'll be sure to win more and more jobs as you become further experienced.
